He believes that neglecting layer 2 would be a big mistake, and developers should continue to focus on collaboration, security, and gas-efficient transactions. According to Buterin, layer 2 protocols have made significant progress since their initial trials in 2019, increasing Ethereum’s transaction capacity by 17 times.
