Vitalik Buterin supports Tornado Cash developer with $170,000 donation. Legal defense fund aims to fight money laundering charges.

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum (ETH), showed his support for open-source projects by donating 50 Ether (equivalent to $170,000) to the legal defense fund of Roman Storm, the developer of Tornado Cash platform. Storm, facing money laundering and sanctions violation charges on April 14, has raised $640,000 out of its $2 million goal. Storm’s legal team argues that Tornado Cash operates automatically and without individual control due to the decentralized nature of smart contracts, therefore absolving the developer from money laundering accusations.
