US government bill to buy 1 million Bitcoins reintroduced by Senator Cynthia Lummis
Senator Cynthia Lummis from Wyoming announced the reintroduction of a bill for purchasing 1 million Bitcoins by the US government during the Bitcoin Conference for America organized by the Bitcoin Policy Institute. The bill, presented in collaboration with another Republican senator, Jim Justice from West Virginia, proposes that the US government buys 1 million Bitcoins as part of its national reserves and holds them for at least 20 years. Lummis had previously introduced this bill in July 2024 but faced limited support in Congress. With the start of the new congressional term, she is looking to revive this effort.
