Litecoin (LTC), launched by Charlie Lee on October 23, 2011, has achieved a remarkable milestone by operating continuously without any interruptions since its inception. The Litecoin Foundation announced through a report on the network’s activity timeline that Litecoin has functioned seamlessly throughout its existence. This success in the world of digital currencies, known for technical issues and network interruptions, is very rare and noteworthy. Litecoin is designed using the Scrypt algorithm and based on the Proof of Work (PoW) system, which is recognized for its higher efficiency and easier access compared to the SHA-256 algorithm. This design allows more individuals to participate in its mining process. On December 26, the Litecoin network reached another milestone with a hash rate exceeding 2 petahashes per second (PH/s) and network difficulty of 59,401,111 at block height 2,816,339. According to IntoTheBlock data, the average daily active addresses for Litecoin in 2024 were 401,000, an increase from the 366,000 addresses recorded for 2023. Additionally, in January 2024, a new record was set for this network with 1.37 million active addresses. The number of Litecoin addresses holding a balance reached 8.25 million by December 23, with 54% of them being in a profitable state. The data also indicate that 78% of Litecoin addresses have held their assets for over a year. This group of users usually buys in bear markets and sells in high-price environments. Currently, nearly 200,000 transactions are processed daily on the Litecoin network, with most of them related to payments.
