Tether prevents $181,000 stolen from Bybit. Ongoing efforts to combat digital theft. $5 million frozen from Lazarus group wallets in North Korea.
Paolo Ardoino, the CEO of Tether, announced that the company has successfully blocked 181,000 Tether tokens related to the ByBit exchange hack by the Lazarus group. This action is part of Tether’s ongoing efforts to combat digital currency theft. In September 2024, Tether along with three other stablecoin issuers froze a total of $5 million from wallets linked to the Lazarus group in North Korea. These wallets were identified by security researcher ZachXBT. The stolen funds, taken in 25 separate attacks on different blockchains, were cashed out through peer-to-peer exchanges.
