Tavanir announces a 5 billion Tomans reward for reporting illegal cryptocurrency miners. Learn about the impact of unauthorized mining on the electricity industry in Iran.

According to Barq News, Mohammad Alidad, the Deputy of Transmission and Foreign Trade at Tavanir, announced a reward of approximately 5 billion Tomans for those who inform about unauthorized centers of digital currency production and miners. Referring to the high number of unauthorized centers for digital currency mining discovered in the country, he stated: ‘The use of these equipment with weak infrastructure networks disrupts services to the people.’ He mentioned that reports on unauthorized activities of digital currency mining are mostly provided by neighbors and citizens who have faced voltage drops and damages to their electrical appliances. The project executor of collecting unauthorized cryptocurrencies at Tavanir mentioned that the number of unidentified unauthorized miners is at least twice the number of discovered miners. He attributed about 20% of the electricity industry’s imbalance to unauthorized centers producing digital currencies, with the main reason being the cheap electricity tariffs, especially in tropical southern regions.
