Sony and the Japanese social media giant LINE have initiated a new collaboration in the blockchain sector. As part of this partnership, four of LINE’s popular mini-apps will be transferred to Soneium, Sony’s blockchain. These four games include Sleepagotchi, Farm Frens, Puffy Match, and Pocket Mob. The collaboration aims to facilitate in-game rewards, digital transactions, and increase user engagement. Developers of LINE games will benefit from Soneium’s support in marketing, building user communities, and intellectual property collaboration. LINE, with 200 million monthly active users, is one of the most popular messaging apps in Asia. Soneium, launched in January 2025, is a layer-two Ethereum blockchain utilizing the OP Stack technology owned by Optimism. Currently, it is the fifteenth largest layer-two blockchain in terms of total value locked (TVL) assets and has 2 million daily active users. Jun Watanebe, the head of Sony Labs, stated that this collaboration will help broaden blockchain adoption and enhance user experience. On the other hand, LINE, which recently launched a decentralized app portal (dApp), with this integration, makes users’ path to entering the Web 3 space smoother. This collaboration could kickstart a new wave of blockchain games in the Asian market and provide fresh opportunities for merging entertainment and Web 3 technology.
