Russia prohibits Bitcoin mining in specific regions until 2031 to manage energy consumption and prioritize industrial needs.

The Russian government has decided to prohibit the mining of digital currencies in 10 regions, including Dagestan, Chechnya, and the republics of Donetsk and Luhansk, from January 2025 to 2031. This action aims to manage energy consumption and prioritize industrial needs. In regions like Irkutsk, Buryatia, and Zabaykalsky, digital currency mining will be restricted during peak energy consumption periods, such as January to March 2025 and November to March in the following years. Following the legalization of digital currency mining in November 2023, Russian mining companies are required to register with the federal tax authorities and provide information about their assets and wallet addresses. Individual miners can consume up to 6,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month.
