The President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, just had a phone call discussing the war in Ukraine. The call aimed to persuade Moscow to accept a 30-day ceasefire and move towards a permanent peace agreement, as hoped by Washington. Dan Scavino, Deputy Chief of Staff for White House, mentioned on social media that the discussions are progressing well. Kirill Dmitriev, appointed last month by Putin as a special representative for international economic and investment cooperation, stated that under the leadership of Trump and Putin, the world has become a safer place. Ukraine had previously agreed to the US ceasefire proposal, while Putin last week expressed support for Washington’s proposal in principle, but his forces will continue the war until several key conditions are met.
