Parliament representative's plea to president for lifting restrictions on digital currency exchange gateways and presenting a bill for digital currency regulation to the parliament.

Mehdi Taghiani, the vice president of the parliamentary economic commission, requested in a letter to the president the removal of restrictions on domestic digital currency exchange gateways and the prompt presentation of a bill to regulate digital currencies to the parliament. The letter stated that the Central Bank, for the second time in the last two months on December 27, 2023, blocked domestic digital currency payment gateways citing lack of transparency in the circulation of rials. Taghiani emphasized that this action could have negative consequences such as capital outflow to foreign platforms and underground transactions. The vice president of the parliamentary economic commission, pointing out the limitations of the Central Bank’s legal powers in this area, asked the president to issue orders to lift the restrictions and present the bill to regulate digital currencies within the framework of the approved regulations of the Supreme Council of Cyberspace to the parliament.
