According to Bloomberg, Joseph Bankman and Barbara Fried, the parents of Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of the digital currency exchange FTX, who has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for fraud, are trying to secure a presidential pardon from Donald Trump. The two Stanford Law School professors have been in discussions with individuals close to Trump’s inner circle in recent weeks to discuss pardoning their 32-year-old son. This request comes as Trump has recently used his pardon powers to free individuals like Ross Ulbricht, the founder of Silk Road. However, unlike Ulbricht, Bankman-Fried does not have widespread public support, although he argues that his prison sentence is overly harsh.
