According to statistics released by Ki Young Ju, CEO of CryptoQuant, the share of institutional investors from the total known Bitcoin holders has increased by 31%, showing a significant growth compared to the 14% figure in 2023. This increase is mainly due to the entry of Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) into the market, government purchases, and the extensive Bitcoin buying strategy by Microstrategy, currently holding over 440,000 Bitcoins. As a result, ETFs collectively hold more than 1.3 million Bitcoins worth $124.89 billion. Governments have also played a significant role in this increase, with the United States leading the pack, holding approximately 198,109 Bitcoins worth around $19 billion. China and Bhutan are also among the other major holders. In total, about 2.45% of the circulating supply of Bitcoin, valued at $49.36 billion, is under governments’ control.
