Hacker loses stolen Ethereum in a phishing scam. Growing trend of digital currency theft reported in 2025.

According to the De.Fi Antivirus Web3 report, the hacker zkLand attempted to launder money from stolen funds through what he thought was a Tornado Cash mixer, losing all 2930 Ethereum in a phishing scam. The hacker mistakenly deposited the funds into a fake Tornado Cash website, leading to the loss of all Ethereum. After realizing the mistake, the hacker sent a confession message to zkLand. ZkLand was attacked on February 12, resulting in over $9.6 million worth of Ethereum being stolen. The protocol offered the hacker a 10% reward for returning the funds, but the hacker ignored the deadline. This attack is part of the growing trend of digital currency thefts. According to Immunefi, in the first three months of 2025, hackers stole $1.64 billion, marking the worst season for cryptocurrency security.
