After Jerome Powell’s remarks on the uncertainty of interest rate cuts in 2025, the cryptocurrency market did not react strongly. Analyst Matthew Hyland believes the cryptocurrency market may have bottomed out. Hyland stated in a post on February 11 on X: ‘The cryptocurrency market received the worst news possible for 2025, but altcoins were not heavily sold, and some even saw price growth.’ According to CoinMarketCap data, in the past 24 hours, Ethereum (ETH) dropped by 3.44%, Ripple (XRP) by 2.92%, and Solana (SOL) by 4.28%. Bitcoin (BTC) also experienced a daily decline of 2.5% and is currently trading around $95,760. Hyland suggested that the market had already priced in the interest rate stabilization in 2025 and added: ‘Markets are usually forward-looking; this news was probably already anticipated, which is why the widespread selling and capitulation happened a week ago.’ He also indicated that since there was no sharp price drop following this news, it is highly likely that the market has reached its bottom. Powell announced during a Senate Banking Committee meeting on February 11 that the US economy remains strong and there is no rush to adjust interest rates. A decrease in interest rates increases liquidity and makes high-risk assets like cryptocurrencies more attractive to investors, while an increase in interest rates makes lower-risk assets such as bonds more appealing. Cryptocurrency experts have different opinions on the impact of not implementing quantitative easing (QE) policies on the likelihood of starting the ‘altcoin season’ in the short term. Fajao, a cryptocurrency trader, wrote on X: ‘We should not expect zero interest rates and QE because for that, the market must go through a painful period.’ Dan McAdle, the founder of Masari, also said: ‘A healthy economy along with some credit expansion is enough to create a medium-risk environment.’ Felix Hartmann, the founder of Hartmann Capital, has stated that the market is near its bottom. Hartmann referred to the negative funding rate of cryptocurrencies and pointed out that quality altcoins have returned to their long-term trends.
