The Ethereum Foundation (ETH) announced a $1.25 million donation to support the legal defense of Alexey Pertsev, the lead developer of the Tornado Cash protocol. Pertsev, who was sentenced to 64 months in prison in the Netherlands last year on charges of laundering $1.2 billion, is currently awaiting a review of his case. The Ethereum Foundation, emphasizing that coding is not a crime, has invited others to help in Pertsev’s legal defense. Tornado Cash is a digital currency mixer service that was sanctioned in 2022 by the U.S. Treasury for criminals’ use in money laundering.
