Following the conviction of Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of the FTX exchange, to 25 years in prison, Elon Musk has commented on the possibility of a presidential pardon for him. Musk’s statement has led to an increase in the probability of Bankman-Fried’s pardon on the Polymarket prediction platform from 4 to 13 percent. Bankman-Fried, convicted in November 2023 for fraud and embezzlement, was one of the major financial supporters of the Democratic Party and Joe Biden’s 2020 election campaign. Once known as a technology innovator at his peak, the collapse of FTX and the discovery of an $8 billion hole in customer deposits turned him into one of the recent major financial scandals.
