The North Korean hacking group Lazarus suffered a loss of about $400,000 in an unsuccessful digital currency trade involving Ethereum (ETH) within just two days. According to Hypurrscan data, on December 18, the group deposited $476,489 USDC to buy Ethereum at a price of $3,791. However, with the price of Ethereum dropping to $3,251 on December 20, they were forced to close their trading position, reducing their initial capital from $2.8 million to $2.4 million. Experts believe that considering transaction penalties and platform fees, the hacker group’s losses could be even higher than the reported amount.
