A new report by Breez shows that Bitcoin is returning to its original role as a ‘digital currency’, with the Lightning Network driving this transformation by offering faster and cheaper transactions. Currently, over 650 million people globally have access to Bitcoin, including users of centralized exchanges like Coinbase and Binance, as well as peer-to-peer (P2P) platforms. The report highlights Bitcoin shining as a digital currency in high inflation developing countries. For instance, Pick n Pay chain stores in Africa use Lightning for Bitcoin payments. It argues that Bitcoin has advantages over stablecoins as it is decentralized and its value is determined by global consensus. However, most Bitcoin holders still keep it more for investment than spending.
