Empower Oversight group has filed a complaint against the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) due to the lack of publication of the Inspector General’s report regarding ethical conflicts and selective enforcement of laws at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The report, completed over a year ago, investigates potential conflicts of interest of William Hinman, former director of the SEC’s Division of Corporation Finance, and his relationship with the law firm Simpson Thacher, which had financial interests in promoting Ethereum (ETH). Tristan Leavitt, head of Empower Oversight, has deemed SEC’s behavior suspicious and emphasized that transparency is crucial for addressing concerns regarding regulatory bias and ensuring accountability in the digital assets sector.
